How to get the most out of this site ā in ten minutes a day, without tears.
Progress tracker
Everything your child plays on this browser is recorded here ā no accounts, no sign-ups.
Mastery by number
Green = 90%+ correct with at least 10 tries. Yellow = practising. Grey = not tried yet.
Facts that need work
Seven ways to use this site well
- 1Multiplication first. Division is multiplication backwards, so children learn to divide by 7 much faster if they know the 7 times table. If a table is still shaky, practise it first on Fun with Multiplication.
- 2Share real things. Before screens, deal 12 grapes onto 3 plates. The Fair Share game and the videos repeat the same idea: division means equal groups.
- 3Talk in fact families. 6, 7 and 42 make four facts: 6 Ć 7, 7 Ć 6, 42 Ć· 6 and 42 Ć· 7. The Fact Families worksheet and the "fact family" puzzles build this habit.
- 4Little and often beats long and rare. Ten minutes a day (one video or one game round) is far better than an hour on Sunday.
- 5One number at a time. In the Race, untick everything except the number you are learning plus one you already know. Add more as confidence grows.
- 6Use the tricks. Every episode ends with a trick (halving, "double it and drop the zero", the nine's secret). Ask your child to teach the trick back to you ā teaching is the best test.
- 7Print for screen-free days. A worksheet at the kitchen table, timed with a kitchen timer, makes a great Friday challenge.
Which number should we divide by next?
Follow the same order as the times tables: easiest to hardest, each step reusing what came before.
This site covers division without remainders (like 42 Ć· 6 = 7). Once these facts are quick, your child is ready for remainders and long division at school.
A trick for every number
| Divide by | Trick | Example |
|---|---|---|
| Ć· 1 | The number stays the same. | 8 Ć· 1 = 8 |
| Ć· 2 | Halve it. | 18 Ć· 2 = 9 |
| Ć· 3 | Think: 3 Ć ? = the number. | 3 Ć 8 = 24 ā 24 Ć· 3 = 8 |
| Ć· 4 | Halve it, then halve again. | 28 ā 14 ā 7 |
| Ć· 5 | Double it, then drop the zero. | 35 ā 70 ā 7 |
| Ć· 6 | Halve it, then divide by 3. | 42 ā 21 ā 7 |
| Ć· 7 | Use the fact family from the 7 times table. | 7 Ć 8 = 56 ā 56 Ć· 7 = 8 |
| Ć· 8 | Halve, halve, halve. | 48 ā 24 ā 12 ā 6 |
| Ć· 9 | Tens digit + 1. | 54 Ć· 9 ā 5 + 1 = 6 |
| Ć· 10 | Take off the zero. | 90 Ć· 10 = 9 |
š A 10-minute daily routine
- 2 min ā Watch this week's episode (or replay it on Fast).
- 3 min ā A round of Fair Share or Puzzles.
- 3 min ā One Division Race on this week's number.
- 2 min ā Check the progress tracker together and pick one "fact that needs work" to say out loud five times.
š« In the classroom
- Project a video episode on the whiteboard and have the class count the jumps together.
- Bingo works brilliantly in pairs: one child reads the caller, the other finds the answer.
- Print Fact Families sheets to connect division to the times tables the class already knows.
- Each "New sheet" click gives different problems, so neighbours can't copy.
Questions grown-ups ask
Should my child know the times tables first?
It helps a lot. They don't need to be fast, but every division fact is a multiplication fact backwards. Our sister site, Fun with Multiplication, works exactly the same way.
What about remainders?
Every problem here divides exactly, on purpose ā these are the "facts" that make remainders and long division easy later.
Does the site collect any data or need an account?
No. Scores and progress are saved only in this browser. Clearing your browser data, or pressing "Reset progress" above, wipes it. Nothing is sent anywhere.
Are the stars shared with the multiplication site?
No ā each site has its own prize box, with different stickers and trophies, so there's always something new to collect.
The voice narration doesn't work.
Narration uses your browser's built-in speech (no downloads). For Arabic narration, your device needs an Arabic voice installed.
